After an intense survival storyline and power-packed casting of season 2, Squid Game is returning this summer with a new season. While there are few people left who haven’t watched Squid Game, there are a lot of people who don’t know a few interesting facts about the series. Lee Jung-jae was the biggest name of the cast in both seasons, but there were a few more people in the cast with surprising career histories.
Player 230 aka T.O.P: Besides the storyline, Squid Game surprised everyone by casting Choi Seung-hyun, better known by his stage name T.O.P, a former member of South Korean boy band BIGBANG. T.O.P stayed away from the entertainment industry for a long time and came back as Player 230 in Squid Game. Because of his long break, many people didn’t know he was a very popular K-pop idol rapper. Sadly, he is not continuing his music career at this date.
Player 222 aka Jo Yuri: Jo Yuri of former Korean girl group IZ*ONE played the role of Player 222! The vocalist-turned-actress did a surprisingly great job playing her role in Squid Game. Her former group IZ*ONE debuted in 2018 and disbanded in 2021.
Player 333 aka Im Si-wan: Though many people know Im Si-wan for his acting projects like Summer Strike, Strangers from Hell, House on Wheels, and so on, many don’t know that he is a singer also. Im Si-wan is a member of South Korean boy band ZE:A, also known as Children of Empire. He debuted as a member of ZE:A in 2010.
Player 007: Yang Dong-geun, also known as YDG, played the role of Player 007. Though he is not an idol, he is a rapper. He started releasing his music in 2001.
Squid Game has many stories yet to unfold. Squid Game season 3 is set to be released on June 27, 2025. The exciting and thrilling story of the death game is coming to an end. Im Si-wan and Jo Yuri are named to return in the next season, but we can expect more surprises in the cast, as producer Hwang Dong-hyuk never disappoints.
